Classic "Stripping”
This treatment is still performed in some hospitals in Flanders. However, the treatment causes a lot of afterpain, many more recurrences and a long recovery period. Therefore, at the Phlebological Centre Antwerp, we always initially opt for the EVLB method instead of stripping. Stripping is a varicose vein technique in which the varicose vein is completely pulled out of the leg through 2 incisions. Through a small incision in the groin, a nylon thread is inserted and attached to the vein. This is then used to completely pull out ("strip") the vein through a small incision in the lower leg. We then suture the wounds and the healing process can begin.
