Sclerocompression therapy with foam

Since the beginning of this century, 'foam' (called foam sclerocompression therapy) has been routinely used in the injection of varicose veins. Results appear to be clearly superior with this technique and in many cases it can be used as an alternative to surgical intervention, especially for patients who cannot or do not want to undergo surgery. It is also preferred in the treatment of recurrences after surgery and in the management of congenital anomalies called venous malformations or tumours.

In this technique, the fluid we inject into the varicose veins is foamed up. As a result, the fluid is thicker and acts more effectively on the vessel wall. Because the foam can spread better over a larger area, it sticks to the vessel wall longer and works longer in the diseased veins.

Foam sclerocompression therapy is an effective treatment against medium to large varicose veins. The treatment is virtually painless and is therefore performed without anaesthesia.
